Tom Petty is one of Grant’s most talked about inspirations.
Update (Oct 3 @ 09:37)
Taka and Tom share words. Tom had this to say:
So many amazing memories forever intertwined with Tom Pettys music. Driving to Cornwall with my dad – as close to California as we were ever gonna get – on one of our many surf trips when I was little, he was always the soundtrack. His songs made me want to write songs myself. They seemed simple but that was his genius. Impeccable eloquence with never a note wasted. They painted a picture of a world that felt warm and familiar yet hazy and sepia-toned and always just out of reach. A place I loved getting lost in then as now. Not trying to make this awful loss about me or anything… I hate that shit. His music belongs to us all. Just wanted to share my memories of a great artist gone too soon. X

In most interviews, including inside the booklet for the Best Of, he talks of how Tom Petty is a massive inspiration to him.
News has just recently broke that Tom Petty had passed away.
There’s been a lot of misreports but unfortunately it is now true:
